Clarets keeper Tom Heaton makes England debut

Clarets skipper Tom Heaton became the first Burnley player since 1974 to earn a senior England cap today when he came on for his debut against Australia at the Stadium of Light.

Not since Martin Dobson picked up his fourth cap against Yugoslavia in June 1974 has a Claret pulled on the Three Lions for the full side, but the 29-year-old created history as he replaced Southampton's Fraser Forster against Ange Postecoglou's Socceroos.

Heaton earned his first call up in May last year for the friendly with the Republic of Ireland and Euro 2016 qualifier against Slovenia, and has been named in subsequent squads.Heaton has previous international experience from Under 16 to Under 21 level with England.
