A TALENTED Burnley cricketer is making his mark on the national stage.

Wicketkeeper Joe Martin was given the opportunity to grace the playing field of Lord’s, the home of cricket, after being selected to represent the MCC Schools’ Xl against the England Schools’ Under 19 Xl.

Having cut short his celebrations following Lowerhouse’s historic second-ever Lancashire League title win on the Sunday, he raced down to the home of cricket to join the MCC squad later that evening.

Due to his late arrival he was made 12th man, but was promised a place in next season’s starting 11.

It was still a memorable day for the Thomas Whitham Sixth Form student, though as he was presented with his MCC Schools’ cap by England captain Andrew Strauss.

Joe was nominated following his man-of-the match display in Thomas Whitham Sixth Form’s annual fixture against the MCC.
