Burnley Athletics Club celebrate 2011 success

BURNLEY Athletics Club held their first presentation evening in five years recently.

Celebrating their triumphs from the 2011 season, the club also marked the setting of six new records.

One of the oldest members John Edwards achieved new club records in hammer, shot and discus, while senior female athlete Karen Vaughan broke two club records in javelin and high jump.

Jay Bowman, one of the newest and youngest members, broke the club records in the Under 11s’ 600m race at Blackpool last September.

The club welcomed over 30 new athletes in 2011, ranging from eight to 64.

Under 11s, 13s and 15s received certificates of achievement and certificates of attendance.

For outstanding attendance throughout the whole of 2011, Madi Lancaster, Declan Clark, James Dean, Aiden Butterworth, Katie Lister, Bowman and Lydia Stanfield received an additional trophy.

The following trophies were awarded: Amy Southern (U11 Girls Sprints); Jay Bowman (U11 Boys Middle Distance); Jessica Schofield (U11Girls Multi Events); James Dean (U11 Boys Endeavour); Katie Lister (U11 Girls Endeavour); Richard Redfern (U11 Boys Coaches’ Athlete of the Year); James Stevens (Junior Male Cross Country); Dale Grimshaw (Senior Men’s Cross Country); Emma Scott (U17 Girls Mid Lancs Track and Field, Endeavour and Sam Green Memorial); Farron Jones (U20 Female Mid Lancs Track and Field); Lewis Southern (U13-U17 Male Mid Lancs Track and Field); John Linaker (Senior Men’s Mid Lancs Track and Field, Sam Green Memorial and the Hurdles Trophies); Georgia Aspinall (U13 Girls Endeavour); Michael Duffy (U13 Boys Endeavour); Callum Holmes (U15 Boys Endeavour); Lee Jones Senior Men’s Middle Distance); Leanne Scott (Senior Ladies Middle Distance); John Edwards and Karen Vaughan (Masters Trophies).
