Sandygate boxers honoured!

BURNLEY’S Sandygate Amateur Boxing Club held it’s ever popular fourth annual awards bash at the Rosegrove Unity in what was a sell-out affair.

Boxers past and present were in attendance and unbeaten Professional Shayne “The Pain” Singleton handing out the trophies, and club coach Nik Tucker compering the evening’s events in his unique style and humour.

The first gongs given out were for the club’s up and coming talents Connor Shaw (11) and Regan Driver (13).

Junior Bout of the Year went to Brett Windle (14) for his great points win against last year’s Schoolboy champion from the Isle of Man, with Lee O’Hara collecting the Senior award for his two encounters with the Yorkshire Region belt holder.

Most Improved Boxer awards were dished out to “The Padiham Power Station” Brandon Hartley (15) and Callum “2-Tone” Rainey (16).

The Howard Rigg Boxer of the Year titles were earned by Charlie Martin (15) and Joe Knight (19).

And the final award of the evening was given to Lloyd Baldwin (23), whose dedication to training, and attitude in and outside the squared circle earned him the Bob Rosbotham trophy.

The club would like to thank all those who have helped in the past season - and what a season!

Five North West Champions, a National ABA Finalist for the third year running and a new boxing gym.

Anyone interested in donning the gloves can take the opportunity this weekend when the club take part in the BBC “Try It Event” and “Join In Weekend” tomorrow - with details at www.sandygateabc.com
