Read climbed to second place in the Ribblesdale League over the weekend.
But champions Clitheroe have one hand on the trophy after winning their top of the table clash with Settle at Chatburn Road on Saturday.
Only a dramatic set of results in the remaining five matches will deny Clitheroe a third successive title.
Jordan Clark hit a half century and Andrew Rushton took 6-54 as Read beat Cherry Tree by 29 runs to leapfrog Settle.
On Sunday, Read had Whalley at 126-6 before the game was abandoned after a deluge of rain.
This weekend, Read are at Baxenden on Saturday and at home to Settle on Sunday.
Euxton and Padiham maintained their promotion push with wins against Brooksbottom and Salesbury.
Former Lowerhouse paid man Francois Haasbroek claimed 6-27 in Euxton’s 38-run win at Brooksbottom.
Padiham, however, can make the title race more interesting by winning their game against Euxton at the Arbories on Sunday.
On Saturday, Padiham Padiham bowled promotion rivals Salesbury out for 103, before getting home by four wickets.
And the following day, Padiham were well on course for victory, having bowled Brooksbottom out for 57.
Padiham were 12-0 when the game was abandoned.
Callum Clarke’s men are at Barnoldswick on Saturday and host Euxton on Sunday.
