Barden on song as Read clinch victory over rivals

A sensational bowling display from Frank Barden helped Read record an impressive victory over rivals Clitheroe.

Barden finished with figures of 6-28 as his side bowled out Clitheroe for just 80.

Joe Marsahll (56) had earlier helped Read reach 168 for 8 off their 39 overs.

The day before it was Read who had been on the end of a bowler in devastating form.

The Whalley Road side managed to restrict Oswaldtwistle to 172 for 8 but could only manage 95 in reply as Andrew Metcalf took 8-44. Thomas Turner top scored for Read with 29.

It was a weekend of mixed fortunes for Padiham as well. On Saturday, the side from the Arbories recorded a comprehensive seven-wicket victory over Ribblesdale Wanderers.

Brannon Varley was the pick of Padiham’s bowlers, finishing with 4-49, as Ribblesdale were skittled out for just 127.

Varley then finished on 29 not out as Padiham reached the target set for the loss of just three wickets.

It was a complete turnaround on Sunday as Padiham managed just 80 runs away to Salesbury.

The Ribchester Road side lost just one wicket in reply as they ran out comfortable winners.

This Saturday Read are away to Great Harwood while Padiham take on Barnoldswick at home.

In Division One Burnley Belvedere hit 211-5 as they beat Read by 29 runs.

Padiham scored 123-4 but went on to lose to Clitheroe by six wickets and Burnley Belvedere II beat Salesbury by the same margin after scoring 111-4.
