It was a poignant occasion as the Craig Heaton Memorial Trophy was presented for the 25th time at Lowerhouse Cricket Club.

The trophy is presented to the most improved player in all age groups in the Burnley and district teams.

This year it was won by Alex Sutcliffe, who plays at Lowerhouse with the Under 14s, third and second XIs, and represents the district Under 15s. It was awarded to Alex for his consistent performances, and, in particular, two match-winning innings of 70-plus.

He also represents the Lancashire League Under 14s, where his best innings was 65 not out in a crucial game to win the league.

Alex was presented with the trophy by Craig’s father Jim in front of a packed clubhouse.
