SABDEN put on a patriotic front and celebrated St George's Day in style.
The village held a St George's Day dance in St Mary's Community Hall which was packed to the rafters and raised £1,263 for the St Mary's new roof fund.

There was an England quiz and songbooks so everyone could have a sing-along and wave their flags to patriotic songs such as "There'll Always Be An England" and "Land Of Hope And Glory".

The DJ was Marcel Galea and, in addition to the community singing, there was entertainment from Sabden band The Kicks, featuring Mark Woodward, Chris Eaves, Anne Parsons and Ben Parsons, solo singer Gemma Ferri, and singer guitarist Marco Galea, who all gave their services free.

A competition for the best English costume was won by Susan White as Britannia, runner-up was Peter Wright as Winston Churchill and the special prize for most original costume was won by Gemma Collinson as an English milkmaid.
