FIRE crews raced to a tyre blaze at the former site of Perseverance Mill yesterday.
Two crews from Padiham and one from Burnley arrived at the scene at 5-30 p.m. where they discovered youths had set fire to a pile of tyres.

Black smoke bellowed across the borough as firefighters spent 45 minutes getting the blaze under control in Dryden Street and watch manager at Padiham Fire Station Duncan Barker-Brown said: "This is basically 75% of the borough's force being used on something that shouldn't even be an incident and it is just a waste of resources. Fortunately we managed to get it under control pretty quickly."

Anybody with any information can contact police on 01282 425001.
