Knife robber strikes at Padiham off-licence

A SHOP owner has spoken of a young assistant's terrifying ordeal at the hands of a knife-wielding robber.
The incident took place at 7-30 p.m. on Tuesday in Padiham when a man wearing a balaclava burst into the Booze Box off-licence in Hill Street and demanded money.
He threatened a 22-year-old woman, working alone, with a knife and demanded she put money from the till into a bag. He then ran off down Hill Street towards Padiham centre with around £150 in cash.
Shop owner Mr Keith Crossley said the woman had only been helping at the shop that week and was very shaken.
He said: "I am really angry about this because a young girl has gone through a traumatic experience for a relatively small amount of money. I was the victim of a similar incident a few years ago so I know how scary it is.
"Luckily the girl wasn't harmed physically but she was very shaken up. We never keep a lot of money in the shop so it is just not worth risking a possible five-year jail sentence for these people, apart from the upset it causes."
Detectives said the offender is described as white, around 5ft. 6in. tall and of slim build.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers, in confidence, on 0800 555 111 or DC John McNamara at Burnley CID on 472140.
