A POPULAR and historic pub in Hapton has closed its doors to customers for the final time.
The Bridge House Inn, in Manchester Road, which has faced closure several times previously, is now set to become a residential development of nine apartments.

The alehouse was taken over by Thwaites' Brewery in 1903 and was once a stopping place for canal barges and their horses. However, due to the existence of other pubs in the village and a decline in trade it was decided it would not re-open for business.

The proposal is to convert the existing premises into seven apartments, but to ensure efficient use of land, plans have been submitted to build two extra apartments in part of the rear yard. Parking will incorporate four garages and five parking spaces.

The plans are to be scutinised by Burnley Council's Development Control Committee next week as there have been objections from residents. Concerns include parking problems and an increase in traffic.
