Each Christmas Padiham Rotary Club blows the snow off its “Santa Sleigh” and brings Santa to West Burnley, Padiham, Read, Simonstone and Hapton. While there, we collect for deserving causes and charities. Our street collections are door to door and we try to cover as many streets as we can.

We also take Santa to the Christmas lights switch-ons at Burnley, Padiham and Simonstone and to the Tesco store in Padiham. We see it as one of the ways our club can put a little back into the community in which many of us live.

As spring approaches, we would like to take this opportunity to thank all who donated during the Christmas period and to let them know we raised £4,000.

Your generosity will now benefit the following charities: North West Air Ambulance and Pendleside Hospice (£1,000), Outdoor Elements (trips to the centre for adults with learning difficulties) (£300), Rosemere Hospice, East Lancs Gynae support Group, Diversions supporting children and families with bowel and bladder problems, NSPCC, Padiham FC and Army Cadets (£250), Police Cadets (£200).

In addition to this, and in conjunction with Pendleside Hospice, we organised our first Winter Wander, a three mile walk around Padiham for families. Donations are still being received but we estimate to have raised an additional £5,000 for their funds. We also hope to repeat this event in 2015.

To help us organise our collections, we rely on the support of friends of Rotary. If any of you think you would like to help us at future events, please contact us individually or through our Padiham Rotary Club website.

Thank you for your support
