LETTER: Thanks from Guide Dogs for the Blind

I AM writing on behalf of the Burnley & District Guide Dogs for the Blind Association, to thank the people of the Burnley area for their generous support of our charity.

The amount raised at our recent street collection was £614.20 on what was a very cold, wet and windy day.

Our grateful thanks go to the guide dog owners, guide dogs and sighted collectors who stood outside braving the elements for several hours.

A great deal of interest was shown to the puppy-in-training and the on-going care of the dogs and their owners.

When someone becomes a guide dog owner, we make a commitment to provide them with a guide dog for life. To provide this service, the association is involved in providing the money for the breeding, 12 months of puppy walking, two years of training and seven years of support while dog and owner are working together.

Many guide dogs still need our care when they retire.

Thank you for helping transform the lives of the blind and partially-sighted.

MRS SYLVIA WHITWORTH

Secretary of Burnley & District Guide Dogs for the Blind Association
