Hopes of building a better community dashed again

Some years ago Burnley Wood was like an area that had been bombed, neglected and partially poisoned, even after many years of protests and meetings, which were mostly smoke screens to bewilder the public.

Things, however, did start to change and improve, with the community watching in anticipation of seeing Burnley Wood back on the map, only once again to be thwarted with new homes. Although needed, as many good, old ones had been demolished, the company building them wants to take the Glebe Street Centre with its footy and basketball ground and its play area too. The recent building of a new playground oin Brunswick Street was taken away, leaving a tip in the place of it six to seven months ago. So where are all these new families and children like ours to spend their time? On the road or out of sight in the hope of not being in danger or in bother?

It seems once again it’s money that is listened to and not the public. Good job councillors and such don’t get paid for detrimental things, otherwise how many would earn their wages?
