Criminal to allow damage to countryside

We should not be greatly surprised by Burnley Council’s announcement regarding public reaction to the launch of the Local Plan.

The “statutory consultation” period was inadequate and somewhat shambolic, so the responses from differing local communities marked a good moment for local democracy.

With elections due in 2015, let our parish, ward, county and parliamentary candidates be on notice that the expectations of voters just got higher with regard to leadership and good governance in respect of planning and related developments.

With such splendid improvements to our urban landscapes increasingly apparent, it would be criminal to permit permanent damage to our equally precious rural landscapes.
