“Young” firebugs who torched a large commercial bin in a Burnley arson attack are wanted by police.

The large rubbish container was set ablaze in Eldwick Street at the side of the Spar shop in nearby Melville Street.

Two young boys were seen approach the bin before it was set alight around 5pm on November 19th.

One of the suspects was on a push scooter and has been described as wearing dark coloured clothing with his hood up.

The second boy was described as quite short with cropped hair and was said to be not tall enough to see over the bin.

PC Phil Ellis, of Burnley Police, said: “Fortunately, the fire was spotted quickly causing only minor damage to the bin but this could have become much more serious and so we are keen to speak to the people responsible.”

He added: “There have also been other reports recently around the same area where young people have been seen to light material and cloth and throw it into the road and so I would also take the opportunity to appeal to anyone who may have any information about this to also come forward to contact police.”

Any information concerning these matters please contact PC 2838 Ellis at Burnley Police Station by calling 101.
