X Factor finalists to turn on Burnley’s Christmas lights

Burnley is set to bring the X Factor feel to town for the Christmas Lights Switch On.

X Factor finalists Amelia Lily and Luke Friend will be helping Burnley celebrate the turning on of the Christmas Lights as well as performing live on stage.

The fun starts from noon on Sunday, November 23rd, with street entertainers, stilt walkers and fairground rides. Nickelodeon favourites, The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will be in town to meeting their fans in Charter Walk Shopping Centre at noon, 1pm and 2pm. Santa and his sleigh is also set to make an appearance with help from his friends at Padiham Rotary Club.

The stage show, which starts from 3pm, will feature successful music artists from the UK’s top shows. Joining Amelia and Luke will be Janet Devlin and Kingsland Road from the X Factor and from Britain’s Got Talent, Jai McDowall, Harry Mondryk, James Smith, Bailey McConnell and Gabz. Up and coming girl band Tiger Heart will also be performing.

To kick off the show there will be performances from the St Johns Cliviger and Unity School Choirs and the Sanderson Dance School. Successful local artists Chantelle Barrow and Maelor Hughes will also be amongst the performers.

The stage, which is being special constructed for the show, will be located on St James Street at the junction with Hammerton Street. In addition, the organisers have agreed to bring in two large videos screen to ensure that as many people as possible get to enjoy the show.

The event is expected to culminate with a dramatic rooftop firework display shortly after 6:30pm.

The switch-on marks the start of Christmas shopping in Burnley, with many shops staying open till 8pm or later every Thursday in the run up to Christmas. Burnley Town Centre Management and Charter Walk Shopping Centre are working closely with partners to make sure the switch-on is a success for businesses and shoppers. Visitors are invited to discover the full value and range of items available from Burnley retailers whilst enjoy the entertainment and atmosphere of the day. The event has been organised by Burnley Borough Council and Charter Walk Shopping Centre in partnership with 2BR, Piper Music Management Ltd and Doc Red Eye.
