WORSTHORNE: Vacancy for a parish councillor?

PARISH COUNCIL – The vacancy for a parish councillor will be filled by co-option. Applicants should write to the Parish Clerk, 268 Manchester Road , Burnley, BB11 4HF by January 24th. Interviews will take place before the parish council meeting on February 7th.

The next meeting of the council is on January 17th at 7-30 p.m.

ST JOHN’S – All services over Christmas have been well-attended. Parishioners from Worsthorne and Cliviger enjoyed the carol service of the United Benefice, and church was packed for the crib service on Christmas Eve.

ST JOHN’S BROWNIE GUIDES – The Worsthorne pack needs help. Anyone willing to take on a leader’s or helper’s role is invited to contact the vicar or a churchwarden.

MEN’S GROUP – The talk scheduled for January has been postponed until March. Instead Mike Smith will talk about Tommy Boyle, Clarets’ captain when they won the cup in 1914 and League in 1921. A trip to Moorhouse’s Brewery is planned for February 16th. Transport available. Sign up at the January meeting.

MOTHERS’ UNION – The annual meeting will be on January 17th at 7-30 p.m. after Eucharist, followed by supper provided by the committee. Some of the programme for 2012 is in place but suggestions are welcomed.

WINE CIRCLE – Sessions resume on Monday at 8 p.m. New members welcome. Tickets for the Tony Berry Evening on February 4th available from Chris on 433279.

NEW YEAR’S EVE – 2012 was welcomed in style at the party hosted by the church choir in St John’s function rooms. The evening included a buffet and disco.
