A man taking an early morning walk along a motorway footbridge sparked a police response when he was mistakenly believed to be attempting to jump.

Response cars rushed to Junction 10 of the M65 around 7-30am on Thursday when a member of the public reported a man peering over the footbridge at Gannow.

The speed limit on that stretch of the motorway was immediately restricted to 50mph but police later confirmed the incident was a false alarm.

A spokesman said: “There was an initial concern that the man may have been attempting to jump. He was seen to be looking out over the motorway but was on the correct side of the barrier.”
