Padiham’s new Mayor has spoken of his immense pride at taking the chains of office and proved the tradition runs in the family.
Coun. Howard Hudson was installed as the town’s first citizen in front of 65 family, friends and fellow councillors who packed the council chamber at Padiham Town Hall as he took over from outgoing Mayor Coun. Vince Pridden.
The mayor-making ceremony also proved to be a momentous family occasion as Coun. Hudson’s brother, Coun. Frank Cant, is the current Mayor of Burnley and was in attendance along with the brothers’ proud mum Mrs Sheila Hudson.
Coun. Hudson, who lives in River Drive and was born and brought up in Padiham, said: “I’m so proud to become Mayor. Being born in the town, it is incredible to become Mayor and it’s even more amazing because my brother and I are Mayors of Burnley and Padiham at the same time. It was great to have Frank sat there as I got the chains of office.”
Coun. Hudson, a grandad-of-three, and his wife and Mayoress Patricia, who works at TRW Engineering in Burnley, said they will continue to raise cash for the Padiham Community Fund and will donate the proceeds of their mayoral year to causes for those aged under 21 and over 60.
The fund has already got off to a good start with a £50 donation from Coun. Hudson’s employer, Harrison Saw and Tool Ltd.
