ALL the spectacular sights and sounds of the carnival are set to brighten up Burnley’s streets.
Burnley Carnival is expected to come to town in May of next year.
But in the meantime, organisers are holding a host of fund-raising events in the lead up to the event.
Spearheading the carnival’s launch is the Burnley Carnival team, comprising former Carnival Queen Michelle Crane, her daughter Salina Clarkin, and three Burnley business women, Kirsty Woodhouse, Leanne Darby and Raynor Pepper.
Salina said: “We are in talks about hosting an event in the town centre on Sunday, May 6th, to tie in with the Burnley Rock and Blues Festival.
“This will then kickstart the series of events we have planned over the course of the year.
“Carnivals are vibrant, exciting and somewhat inspirational.
“They bring people together from all walks of life.”
A street dance competition on May 11th at Koko’s, in aid of the Mayor’s Charity, a masquerade ball at the Higher Trapp Hotel on May 25th, and a record-breaking street party over the Jubilee Weekend are just some of the events which have been organised by the group, which is aiming to support a number of local charities and community projects throughout the year.
