A teenage busker whose life revolves around singing will have the nation’s ear today when she appears on hit BBC show “The Voice”.

Cody Frost (17) performs a stripped-back version of ABBA’s “Lay Your Love On Me” to judges Paloma Faith, Boy George, Ricky Wilson and Will.i.am and, without revealing the outcome of her blind audition, called the entire process an incredible experience.

“I was so nervous on the day,” said the former Blessed Trinity pupil.

“I had to go over to Manchester and it was for the whole day. People kept coming up to me and asking me if I was nervous which didn’t help.

“I was just trying to keep cool. Even when I went out onto the stage and started singing I was still really nervous. I couldn’t believe where I was. I was trying my hardest not to think about it but the judges were so nice. They had a lot of positives, I did really enjoy it.”

Cody, who was brought up in Burnley but now lives in Nelson, decided to apply for “The Voice” because she wanted to put herself out there.

I applied in writing and then had to sing in front of the producers before I was able to go in front of the judges. It’s been a long process.

“I wasn’t really interested in the education side of school. I enjoyed being creative more, doing music and art.

“I watch ‘The Voice’ with my mum and I love singing so I thought it would be a good way of forwarding myself.

Cody has her own YouTube channel with more than 3,000 subscribers and whatever the outcome of “The Voice”, says she will continue singing.

“I’ve always wanted to be a singer. Eventually, I want to get a band together and start touring.

“I’ve only got 27 videos on my YouTube channel at the minute so to have 3,000 subscribers is really good. I’ve had a bit of help from my favourite band ‘Enter Shikari’ who’ve posted some of my videos on their Facebook page so that’s been good.

“I’ve been busking since I was 12 and I love it. I go to Manchester and York and make a day of it. I’ve not been doing it as much lately because of the weather but I’ll definitely be going out again soon. It’s one of the things I love doing most. You get to meet so many interesting people.

“I’m not really that good on the guitar and I don’t think I’m the best at writing but I love singing. I’ll always sing.”

You can find out whether Cody made it into one of the judge’s teams by tuning into The Voice this Saturday on BBC One at 7-30pm.
