Padiham’s new Mayor has vowed to help businesses and community groups in the town.
Coun. Vince Pridden took on the chains of office and pledged to continue Padiham Town Council’s proud tradition of community work.
During the official town hall ceremony the Mayor said the greatest asset of the town was its people.
He said: “My aim this year is to lead the council and help the people of Padiham and help local businesses and community groups wherever possible.
“We will carry on running the community fund for events and fund-raising activities that will endeavour us to put the community at the forefront of everything we do.
“Throughout the speech I have spoken of the Padiham community – I feel the best asset Padiham has is the people of Padiham.”
Coun. Pridden, whose wife Gillian will be Mayoress, said the past year had been great for the town with the opening of the new Tesco superstore, the formation of the new Town Centre Partnership and league victory for Padiham Football Club and the Storks’ reserve side. He added that he hoped the next 12 months would be prosperous for Padiham.
Out-going Mayor Coun. Alan Ravenscroft said his year in office was a privilege which included an emotional Remembrance Sunday service and presentation to the school leavers at Shuttleworth College. Along with Mayoress Linda Ravenscroft, he helped raise £4,500 for the Padiham Community Fund with events including a the civic ball, quiz night and children’s Hallowe’en party.
The new Deputy Mayor and Mayoress were unveiled as Coun. Howard Hudson and his wife Patricia.
