VIDEO: Burnley marathon hero finishes

BURNLEY’s mega marathon man Brian Parker has completed the last of his incredible 12 marathons.

In just 12 days, the unflagging pub landlord, who is raising money for Pendleside Hospice, ran 312 miles across 12 counties before finishing at Burnley Town Hall today.

A crowd of friends and supporters gathered to meet him at the finish line and Brian, who runs The Commercial in Harle Syke, said it was great feeling to have finished.

“It’s great to have finished it, it’s been so hard though. My shins and ankles are really swollen and this morning we had to drive from Buxton to Preston for the last one so I was stiffening up all the way there.

“It’s not got any easier and I’m in a lot of pain but it’s definitely been worth it.”

His 12 marathons took him across Staffordshire, Shropshire, Hertfordshire, Worcestershire, Warwickshire, Northamptonshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire before finishing up in Burnley. He was supported all the way by driver Maurice Pattison.

And despite only just finishing this latest challenge Brian is already looking ahead to his next one.

“Next year I’ll be canoeing across the channel to France and then water-skiing back.”
