Video: 24 hours on the streets of Burnley

For the next 24 hours, Kieran Macdonald will be seeing exactly what it is like sleeping rough on the streets of Burnley in a bid to raise money for homeless charity Shelter.

I will be joining Kieran for the full duration of his charity challenge not just to help him raise funds but also to get a sense of what a night with nowhere to go feels like.

Twenty-year-old Kieran, who lost his job just before Christmas, came up with the idea after bumping into a homeless man in Burnley town centre.

After sparing him some change and subsequently seeing the look on his face, Kieran decided to spend a bit of time researching the issue and decided he wanted to do his bit to help.

We started at noon and throughout the day and night will hopefully be speaking to a number of people and organisations involved in helping the homeless as well as some of those affected.

At a time when so many in society are worrying about their own financial situations, it is extremely refreshing to see a young lad, without a job himself, attempting to help those who need it the most.
