A HORSE had to be rescued by firefighters after it became trapped in a metal fence.

The adult horse was in a field in Robin House Lane near to stables off Halifax Road, Harle Syke, when its hoof became trapped between the bottom two bars of the fence.

A crew from Nelson, which specialises in rescuing large animals, and a crew from Burnley attended.

Crew manager Kieron Ogden said: “We used holmatro spreaders to bend the bars slightly and release the horse. Its hoof was bleeding slightly and a vet was called but I think it was okay.”

The incident happened around 11am on Saturday.
