A BURST water pipe has wreaked havoc on a busy Burnley road.

Engineers from United Utilities were called out to Brunshaw Road, near the junction of Rimington Avenue, around 4-30 a.m. on Wednesday.

The section of road, between the junction of Brownside Avenue and Ridge Avenue, is still closed and a spokesman from United Utilities said: “The burst was caused by a faulty air valve, which affected pressure in the pipe and caused it to burst.

“Thankfully, no customers lost supply, as we were able to isolate the damaged section of pipe, and supply homes via another part of the water network.

“The pipe repair is nearly complete but there is significant damage to the road surface, so some form of traffic management will remain in place. The council will make a judgement call on whether to remove the diversion and introduce temporary traffic lights, or to keep the diversion in place until the road is repaired. We hope to have the road fully open by the weekend.”
