AN art exhibition to show audiences what an important role childhood toys play in their lives will be held at Towneley Hall next year.
Artist Roo Waterhouse has been awarded funding for her latest work The ReCollection Project from the National Lottery through Arts Council England.
Over the next year Roo will be researching the toy collections at Towneley Museum, Burnley, and Bankfield Museum, Halifax, and seeking to bring them back to life in a series of paintings.
Memories of cherished toys and people’s “playtime stories” will be gathered from the local community through stalls at events in Calderdale and Burnley, and via the internet.
The different elements of the project will be brought together in a touring exhibition at Bankfield from January 2012 and Towneley from April 2012.
Roo said: “I am thrilled to have this opportunity to work with the staff at Bankfield and Towneley Hall and with the wider community. I am keen to bring the toy collections together and enliven them for visitors through paintings and stories, encouraging people’s enthusiasm for living history.”
