A TEENAGE driver has been killed following a head-on smash in Cliviger.

The 18-year-old, who is from Bacup, was pronounced dead at the scene after his blue Ford Fiesta collided with a black Mitsubishi L200 in Bacup Road at 5-20 a.m. today.

The driver of the Mitsubishi suffered sd was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital for a check-up.

The road was closed for several hours from the top of Crown Point and the junction with Burnley Road East while an investigation is carried out.

Police are appealing to anybody that witnessed the crash to contact them on 101.

Sgt Gareth Hill from the Force Road Policing Unit said: “We are at the early stages of the investigation and we are trying to establish the circumstances of exactly what has happened. I would appeal to anybody that witnessed the collision itself or saw either vehicle being driven in the area prior to the incident to contact police.”
