POLICE are urging homeowners to keep their doors and windows locked as summer approaches.

Officers will be on patrol in neighbourhoods throughout Burnley at all times of the day and night looking for houses which have been left insecure or with property on view.

PCSOs will also be knocking on people’s doors in areas which have been targeted by burglars to remind them about the importance of keeping windows and doors locked and Chief Insp. Paul Withers said: “It sounds like simple advice but as the summer approaches, we urge residents to be security conscious around their home and garden.

“Please lock all doors and windows when going out or when in the garden. Put all garden tools away and lock your shed or garage.

“Don’t be careless with your personal belongings, even around your home. Place them out of sight.

“It only takes a few seconds for a burglar to make their mark, so take a few minutes to make your mark against them.

“Taking extra steps to prevent thieves entering your home will help ensure you can enjoy the summer.”

Anyone with information about burglary or who sees anything suspicious in their neighbourhood can contact the police on 0845 1 253545 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
