Oaklands Nursing Home nursing staff celebrate their long service awards.

LONGEVITY comes with the job for a team of dedicated care workers a nursing home.

Together, the 11 members of staff at Oaklands nursing home in Talbot Street, Harle Syke, can boast 155 years of looking after the elderly.

Matron Pauline Deeming has been at there for 20 years, and her colleague Jackie Wade for an even more impressive 22. Their achievements were celebrated as part of a long service award ceremony at the home, when they were joined by Tina Myles (16 years), Sandra Walker (15), Gillian Pounder (14) Karen Williams and Kishwar Sultana (both with 12), and Heather Duckworth, Suzanne Harpur, Tracy Bowden and Deborah Graham, who have all been at the home for 11 years.

The awards were preceded by a concert to entertain residents at the home. Said Mrs Deeming: “A home is all about the people in it and at Oaklands we have an amazing retainment for staff across all areas of work: auxiliary staff, care staff and nurses. Rarely do any staff leave Oaklands, and because of this our clients are guaranteed a consistently high quality of care.”
