Body of Burnley man (47) eaten by pet dogs

THE body of a Burnley man who died after drinking alcohol and taking methadone was eaten by his pet dogs after it remained undiscovered for two months.
Mr Neil Blackmore (47), of Harold Street, was eventually found by his landlord on April 17th.
The inquest heard Mr Blackmore “enjoyed a drink” and there were cider bottles and drug paraphernalia around his home.
His landlord Mr Henry Terefenko told the inquest he had known Mr Blackmore for a number of years and would often see him out walking his dogs.
But Mr Terefenko and a shopkeeper in the area became concerned when they did not see him for several weeks.
When the landlord went round to the house he heard the dogs barking and on going inside he discovered Mr Blackmore’s body in the living room, in front of the settee.
Pathologist Mr Abdul Al Dawoud said he had been dead for some time before he was found.
The post-mortem examination revealed Mr Blackmore had been drinking and had taken methadone, a combination which had probably caused his death. But, he added, he could not give a more detailed report because there were no internal organs or soft tissue on the body.
East Lancashire Coroner Mr Richard Taylor recorded an open verdict and said: “Because of the state of the body, the only verdict I can return is an open verdict because there wasn’t enough to examine.”
