A COMMUNITY enterprise centre is launching into 2011, ready to play host to the Prime Minister’s Big Society plan.

South West Burnley Community Enterprise Centre is starting to provide new services including room hire.

The centre in Valley Street, off Rossendale Road, already hosts a range of activities from UK online computer access to a weekly over-50s lunch club.

Now, facilities, including a large meeting room, IT suite and fully-equipped kitchen and cafe dining area are being offered for hire to local community groups and organisations such as training providers, business and local authorities.

South West Burnley Community Enterprise chief officer Christine Launder said: “We are a third sector not-for-profit social enterprise, just the type of organisation the Government is looking at to take forward its Big Society agenda.”

The centre also offers catering and a creche. Other organisations using the centre include the Residents of Stoops Estate Group, a local arts group, Calico and charities Greenspace and Scope.

The centre is also doing its bit to get Burnley residents fit and healthy as it delivered a three-year Big Lottery funded Healthy Eating Active Lifestyle project which attracted more than 900 participants.

Christine added: “With our easy access location in the heart of South West Burnley and facilities, the time is right to let people, organisations and particularly local businesses and local authorities, know we are here and what we have to offer.”

David Cameron’s Big Society is a plan to get people more involved in their communities in a bid to make them safer and encourage social responsibility.
