The Labour MP took the opportunity of Prime Minister’s Questions to challenge Mrs May about funding for local primary and secondary schools.Mrs Cooper believes that under the proposed new fair funding formula for schools the majority of schools in Burnley constituency are set to have their funding cut.And she believes that plans to create new grammar schools represent money that would be better spent elsewhere.Mrs Cooper said: “I want to see all children get the very best educational start in life but surely this won’t be achieved by starving our existing schools of cash and closing down outstanding nursey schools.“The planned new Grammar schools will only benefit a tiny minority of children and will do nothing to help the educational and life chances of the majority of children in Burnley and Padiham. The money would be better spent to support our existing schools and Nursery Schools.”
