A Burnley woman was arrested after violence broke out at a gypsy fight club-style boxing match.
Dozens of armed officers, dogs, a helicopter and 18 police cars raided what is thought to be an illegal boxing match on an Staffordshire industrial estate on Saturday.
It is understood around 500 travellers were attending and nearby residents heard gunfire at the site. To ensure the safety of everyone in the area, armed police officers were deployed, along with the force helicopter and dog support to deal with the incident.
Investigations are continuing into the incident. Insp. Mark Barlow, from Newcastle Borough Local Policing Team, said: “We are investigating reports that a significant number of members of the travelling community travelled to our area, from a number of locations outside Staffordshire, specifically for a planned illegal fight between members of travelling family groups.”
