A motorist has been killed in following a car accident in Hapton early this morning.
The accident happened around 5-30am at the bottom of Manchester Road in the village.
It is believed just one car was involved and the driver lost control near to The Stables, just over the bridge near to the former Bridge Inn.
Police accident investigators were still at the scene hours later and the road was cordoned off while investigations took place.
Fire crews from Burnley and Accrington also attended the incident.
Insp Phil Turner, of Lancashire Police, confirmed an accident investigation team was at the scene.
A Hapton resident, who did not wish to be named, said more needed to be done to make the road safe.
He said: “It is very sad. Cars go very quickly down the hill and over the bridge and don’t realise how dangerous it can be.
“I think there should be warning signs or speed humps placed here because cars look like they take off when they go over the bridge.”
