Pennine Lancashire 10k Run: best of Burnley on show

THE best of Burnley will be on show when thousands of runners descend on the town for the Asda Foundation Pennine Lancashire 10K Run.

The official route has been unveiled and will take in Burnley’s best-loved landmarks including Towneley Hall, Turf Moor and Rowley Lake.

The 10km course takes in three of the town’s celebrated parks and race organisers For All Events say it is ideal for first-time runners but will prove a great challenge for seasoned athletes.

Pennine Lancashire 10K event director Sara Birkinshaw said: “We’ve got a really well thought out route that takes in Burnley’s most beautiful landmarks as well as going right past the home of Burnley FC, Turf Moor.

“It’s also our greenest 10K as it takes in three different parks, going right past Towneley Hall.

“We think it’s a great course. It’s reasonably flat so shouldn’t be too difficult for first-timers and it’s really good for more serious runners who want a chance at a personal best.”

The race will start from Burnley Mechanics before heading up through Thompson Park, Brunshaw and the Brun Valley Forest Park. Runners will head down past the golf course and Towneley Hall and back through the town centre to the finish line at Burnley Mechanics.

Thousands are expected to join in the event which could raise more than £100,000 for local charities.

Sara Birkinshaw said: “We’re really thrilled with the response we’ve had since last week’s launch – there’s been a huge amount of interest and support and entries are coming in thick and fast.

“We’re getting lots of interest, too, from groups of work colleagues, friends and family who want to challenge each other.

“We’re looking forward to a really superb event on June 2nd.”
