Burnley Light Opera Society members are celebrating winning a clutch of silverware at the theatre world’s annual awards night.

Performers from across the area gathered at the Dunkenhalgh Hotel, Accrington, for the NODA North-West region’s district three and 12 awards on Saturday, and the Burnley society, known as BLOS, was top of the awards league taking home nine trophies.

They were closely followed by Pendle Hippodrome Youth Theatre, Clitheroe Parish Church Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society and new group Rossendale-based X-RAYS, with five awards each.

The awards cover societies in the National Operatic and Dramatic Association’s North-West region’s district three, for Burnley and Pendle, and district 12 for Blackburn, Hyndburn, Rossendale and Clitheroe.

All the winners will go forward to the North-West regional awards in Manchester on Sunday, May 1st.

BLOS’s main award is for the best musical for its outstanding production of “Sister Act” at Burnley Mechanics in November.

PHYT’s production of “The Phantom Of The Opera” was named best youth production with Phantom Ronan Pilkington named best leading youth performer across the area.

The Clitheroe society was honoured for its production of “Oliver!” and the play “Death By Fatal Murder”. See Showtime on Page 34 for the full list of BLOS awards.
