Pendle Olympic Gold Medal cyclist Steven Burke MBE has tested the new bike track named in his honour.

Steven, from Colne, had the chance to try the Steven Burke Sports Hub cycle track at Swinden Playing Fields, situated on the edge of Nelson, close to Barrowford and Colne.

He said: “It is an honour to have a cycling circuit named after you. It’s so exciting.”

He thanked organisations giving financial support to the new track, British Cycling, Sport England, Lancashire Environment Fund and Pendle Council, and praised Peter Boast, of Cycle Sport Pendle, for getting the scheme established.

“We will see more Olympic medallists here!” he said.

Cycle Sport Pendle will run the track for Pendle Council, which owns the facility, to introduce a new generation of young people to cycling.

Steven will return to officially open the track on Saturday, June 28th, as the first event in Pendle Cycling Festival. For a full programme of activities in the festival, visit www.visitpendle.com
