Police hunting Hapton knicker thief

Two young women were left shaken after a man shouted lewd comments through their door before stealing knickers from a washing line.

The frightening incident happened at around 2am on Saturday when the women were disturbed at their home in Wordsworth Street, Hapton, by a man repeatedly knocking on their door.

This is an unusual and isolated incident which has left the two women shaken and distressed.

The women did not answer the door but the male made comments of a sexual nature to them and later stole a pair of knickers from the washing line at one of the properties.

The man was wearing dark clothing.

Det. Sgt Alisa Wilson of Burnley CID said: “This is an unusual and isolated incident which has left the two women shaken and distressed.

“I believe the man responsible may have been in the area for some time and I am appealing for anyone who may have seen him loitering to make contact.

“Patrols have been increased in the area and enquiries are ongoing to identify the man.”
