AN exciting new initiative is being launched at West Craven High Technology College to provide students, businesses and the public with an introduction to Mandarin.

School governor Pat George said: “We are aware many businesses are now making contact with China and we will be offering a series of seven free taster sessions.”

The programme of study will include sessions conducted by specialist Mandarin tutors, access to on-line tutorials and opportunities to practise conversation.

Topics covered include greetings, introductions, ordering food and using public transport.

The first session is on February 17th from 3-15 p.m. to 4-15 p.m.

Staff at the Leeds Confucius Academy would also be willing to provide additional sessions following the taster course at a reasonable cost for adults, which could be held at the school or in work places.

Anyone interested in joining the course should contact the bursar at school on 812292 or bursar@westcraven.lancs.sch.uk
