The popular event had to be postponed several times last year due to wet weather – but sun and sizzling temperatures made 2013 a day to remember.

Youngsters played and parents basked in the baking sun on the banks of the River Calder. Fairground rides wowed thrill-seekers while others enjoyed browsing stalls selling food and goodies.

Around 500 yellow ducks were launched into the water and crowds lined the banks cheering them on to the finish at Station Road. The day helped raise £1,500 for the Padiham Mayor’s Fund.

Coun. Jean Cunningham said: “The duck race was absolutely fantastic. Everyone had a brilliant day. We had people coming from as far away as Preston to join in. All the families were having a great time.”

Padiham Mayor Vince Pridden, who was a among hundreds enjoying the day, said: “It has been really successful. The weather has been great and it has brought the people Padiham out in their droves.

“This is the best duck race we have ever done. It builds up well ready for the Party in the Park on September 8th.”

A winners list will be posted outside the town hall soon.
