A REMARKABLE pair of very special women are celebrating reaching an incredible milestone.
Mrs Ethel Fletcher and Mrs Alice Southwell, residents at Woodside Care Home, both turned 102 years old on the same day and were joined by friends, family and staff to mark the wonderful occasion in style.
Alice’s son Derek and his family joined the party while Ethel’s relatives, who were unable to make the trip down from Scotland, sent cards and flowers.
Miss Pauline O’Neil, manager at the care home, said the special pair of birthday girls had thoroughly enjoyed their day of celebrations.
“We had a really nice day to celebrate their birthdays,” she said. “They both received some beautiful flowers and beautiful cards which have been put up around the home and they both had cakes as well.
“Ethel has been in care for a while now but Alice actually only just came in last October. Before that she was living in a house by herself.
“They are the oldest residents at the home and I fully expect them to be receiving a Queen’s telegram in three years to help celebrate their 105th birthdays.”
