Bus drivers are ‘50 Shades of Gravy’ winners

Lovestruck Deborah Barton only has pies for her husband Ian.

They met as bus drivers for Transdev in Burnley and, to prove Ian is still just the ticket 13 years on, she nominated him for a Valentine’s competition.

To Ian’s delight, his prize was more a case of 50 shades of gravy than 50 Shades of Grey. Clayton Park Bakery presented him with a hamper packed with savouries and cupcakes.

The couple live in Plover View, Burnley, and have seven children and six grandchildren.
Deborah (48) now works for Transdev customer services and Ian (55) still drives buses.

Said Ian: “I wasn’t expecting it at all as I knew nothing about being nominated. It was a surprise as I don’t usually win anything. We really enjoyed the hamper, particularly the potato pies and cream cakes!”

Bakery general manager Brian Ashworth said: “We were struck by the fact Ian and Deborah found love on the buses. It goes to show relationships can blossom in the most unlikely places.”
