Tradition: School children’s May procession

Waiting for Video...

Pupils, staff, parents, governors and parishioners took part in a special May celebration to honour Our Lady, at St John’s RC School in Thames Avenue, Burnley.

The annual May Procession is a highlight of the school year and this year the sun shone down as the large procession snaked its way around the schoolyard and altars were erected in the infants and junior playgrounds where intercessions and prayers were led by parish priest Fr Michael Waters.

After the procession led by Fr Waters, head teacher Kieran Heakin and head boy and girl Nadine Bergundo and Ryan Mossop, Nadine crowned the statue of Mary, and special May hymns were sung.

All the children had taken along flowers to place on the statue and make the event a lovely colourful tribute on a beautiful sunny day.
