PADIHAM is facing tough times ahead and the newly-elected Mayor has pledged to give his support to the townsfolk to overcome them. .

Speaking after his installation as Mayor of Padiham, Coun. Bob Clark said he felt “honoured and privileged’’ to serve the town.

He said: “We do have some challenges to face in Padiham but I have no doubt the people of this town will tackle them head on.’’

Coun. Clark has served on Padiham Town Council since its launch 10 years ago and this is his second time as Mayor. He was first elected to be the town’s figurehead in 2003.

Coun. Clark chose his wife, Ann, as his Mayoress. A retired teacher, Mrs Clark is one of the driving forces behind Padiham Archives, a historic collection of photos and memorabilia charting the town’s history.

Coun. John Cave was installed as Deputy Mayor of Padiham and his wife, County Coun. Sharon Wilkinson, will serve as Deputy Mayoress.

Before handng over her chain of office, retiring Mayor Coun. Jean Cunningham announced that during her year in office £4,172 was raised for Padiham Community Fund. She said one of the highlights of her year was the opening of Padiham Greenway which, she said, was due to the “vision and persistence’’ of town councillor John Harbour.
