Medieval merriment in Ightenhill

Visitors to Ightenhill took a step back in time when the area hosted a medieval day.

The Manor House in the Park event, organised by Ightenhill Parish Council, saw the unveiling of an information board related to the Manor House project by the Lord Lieutenant of Lancashire, Lord Shuttleworth.

Karen Sauer demonstrates how to make a clay medieval tile at the medieval day at Ightenhill Park.

Local historian Coun. Roger Frost did a talk about the project which has seen a geophysical survey on the site of a former Norman manor house.

Medieval re-enactors provided plenty of fun for the children including members of the Red Wyvern Society who displayed weaponry demonstrations.

There were also demonstrations of pole laith turning by the Greenwood Twiggs group, and even a medieval minstrel in the form of Leeds man Peter Bull who entertained the crowds with his playing of the lira, a late 15th century instrument.
