A family has slammed sick yobs who shot their beloved pet cat three times with an air rifle leaving her in need of life-saving surgery.
Kenneth Pickles (59) and his partner Sarah Anness (28) returned to their home off Brownside Road, Worsthorne, on Monday, May 12th, to find silver tabby Snow looking lifeless in the back garden.
They rushed the animal to the vets where X-rays revealed she had been shot in the head, through the spine and the stomach.
The cat, which is just 18 months old, had to have three-quarters of her intestines, a quarter of her stomach and much of her bowel removed at a cost to the family of £2,000.
Snow is now back home but insurance broker Mr Pickles said it was 50/50 whether she would survive and is now worried about letting his young sons play outside in case they get targeted.
He added sons David (9) and Ashton (2) have been upset by the incident.
“David was very upset and little Ashton was asking for the cat while it was with the vets. Whoever’s done this is sick.”
Sarah added: “The vet said this is one of the most horrific things they’ve ever seen. I can’t believe anybody would do this, they have deliberately targeted her, she was shot three times.
“She’s such a loving cat and everyone comments how beautiful she is.”
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact police on 101 quoting log number 1142 of May 13th or the RSPCA on 0300 1234 999.
