A Burnley school has helped raise money for victims of the Philippines typhoon.

Sir John Thursby Community College held a winter fair for the Disaster Emergency Fund supporting victims of the superstorm.

Visitors enjoyed a host of stalls selling everything from hand-made cards and festive gifts to scarves, toys and winter plants at the community event which also raised money for Pendleside Hospice.

Indian head massages and henna art were available and entertainment was provided by children dancing and singing. There were free children’s activities also on offer, colouring, origami and decorate a ginger bread man.

The event, organised by Andrea Credland and Angela Melvin, enjoyed support from local businesses including Sainsbury’s, Pendle Leisure and Farmhouse Biscuits who provided prizes for the raffle and tombola on the day.

Families also got the chance to see inside the police CCTV van and climb aboard a fire engine as officers attended the fair. A total of £440 was raised.
