A pensioner has had to be cut out of his car by firefighters after a crash near Burnley town centre this morning.

The incident happened in Finsley Gate at 9-40am at the junction with Parker Lane. The man was driving a green Hyundai which was in collision with a black Fiat Punto. Two fire engines were called to the scene along with police and paramedics and the man was cut out of the vehicle.

Finsley Gate was reduced to one lane of traffic. The driver of the other car was unhurt.

Burnley Fire Station manager Steve Morgan said: “Where we suspect spinal injuries we have to take the roof off. We’ve taken the roof off as a precaution.”
